The new antifoulant common named medetomidine has been branded Selektope™

After thorough discussions in the company and with our customers we coined Selektope™, a brand name that reflects the specific antifouling properties of our compound.

The name is a combination of the words selective and octopamine.

Selective because its biological activity is selective towards barnacles and other shell forming foulers, leaving non-target marine life unaffected.
Docking of selektope in the octopamine receptor of the barnacle larvae has been identified as the trigger for the shying behavior that the larvae shows when approaching a selektope containing surface.

Exchange of the “c” in the word for a “k” reflects the Scandinavian heritage of the molecule.
