SelektopeTM - The new generations antifouling substance

I-Tech has developed SelektopeTM (generic, Medetomidine) as an antifouling agent. It’s potency i.e. antifouling effect is achieved in parts per trillion (ppt), where other substances are needed in amounts that is at least 100 times higher.

SelektopeTM has a benign ecotoxicological profile due to the fact that it is specifically active against barnacles, and less towards non-target species. This is further improved by a strong chemical binding towards transitional metals, allowing for control release over longer period of time.

The low concentration needed in paint formulations allow mixing SelektopeTM with existing polymer systems without compromising the chemical and physical properties of the paint.

Less than 1/500 of Medetomidine needed to achieve the same antifouling effect as for copper
